Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada is recruiting a Laundry Attendant to manage laundry operations within the facility. You will sort, wash, dry and deliver linens and clothing to residents and floors, while adhering to infection control procedures and safety policies.

You will also keep accurate records and support the facility team as needed. Candidates should have completed high school and be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Qualifications

• High School completed.
• English literacy required (read, write, speak).
• Previous healthcare/long-term care experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition and weight load per wash.
• Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations and times.
• Sorts and delivers to appropriate floors and resident rooms.
• Observes operation of machines and reports malfunctions; maintains facilities and supplies.
• Adheres to established department policies regarding safety, environment and infection control.
• Keeps records and completes incident reports as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:

• Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition, and weight load per wash. Follows specific instructions for treatment of soiled linens, using methods, chemicals, and protective equipment. Separates loads according to classification.
• Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations, designated washing, and drying times, etc.
• Sorts personal clothing or puts aside for repairs or labelling. Folds laundry as required, sorts, and delivers to appropriate floors and resident rooms.
• Observes operation of machines and reports malfunctioning to Facility Service Manager. Assists in maintaining laundry facilities, equipment, and supplies. Cleans machines as required, cleans, and tidies floors and laundry area.
• Adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality management, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Keeps records and completes incident reports as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed High School

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

• WHMIS
• Understanding procedures and ability to follow established infection control protocols
• Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience in the Healthcare environment or Long-Term Care setting, Housekeeping preferred.
• Able to read, write and speak the English language.
• Able to communicate with Managers, other employees, and residents.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

• Considerable amount of standing and walking short distances, wide range of body movements involved in bending, rotating, and reaching frequently.
• Ability to carry, push/pull and or lift materials weighing upwards of 20 lbs.
• Enclosed environment where area may be noisy, hot, and humid.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires attention to detail and practice of proper policies and procedures

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:

The job incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $25.82 to $25.82 with a maximum of $25.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
