Job summary

Islington Nurseries Ltd. is seeking a Construction Estimator to drive successful bids from concept through detailed cost analysis. You will prepare detailed estimates for labour, materials and equipment, analyze drawings, and coordinate with project teams to ensure profitability.

In a fast-paced GTA-focused environment, you will gather pricing from subs and suppliers, review contracts, and contribute to bid proposals that clearly outline scope, costs and timelines.

Qualifications

• Completion of a college or university program.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in construction estimating.
• Proven experience in estimating within commercial and/or civil sectors.
• Strong knowledge of construction management processes, contracts, and project management principles.
• Familiar with bidding processes and self-motivated.
• Ability to interpret landscape drawings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Able to handle multiple tenders and meet deadlines.
• Excellent negotiation skills for working with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Solid understanding of construction site operations, cost control, and pricing strategies.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed construction estimates and takeoffs including all labour, materials and equipment by analyzing project plans, specifications, and site conditions.
• Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather pricing information and negotiate terms.
• Assist in meetings with clients and partners.
• Coordinate subcontractor submissions during the tendering process.
• Coordinate and conduct site visits to assess conditions that impact costs and timelines.
• Coordinate submission of tender documents.
• Prepare shop drawings as required.
• Manage cost control measures throughout the project lifecycle to ensure budgets are maintained.
• Review contracts, scope of work, and project schedules to align estimates with client expectations.
• Assist in the development of bid proposals that clearly outline scope, costs, and timelines.
