Job summary

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada, Burnaby studio, seeks a Landscape Architect IV - Design and Community Planning to lead planning, design and master planning projects. You will guide interdisciplinary teams, develop implementation strategies, and oversee deliverables from inception to completion.

The role emphasizes Indigenous engagement, community-based design, and collaboration with municipal and First Nations partners, with a hybrid work model in Canada.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS + six years of relevant landscape architecture or related experience.
  • Professional registration, eligibility for registration, or active pursuit of registration is asset.
  • IAP2 or Indigenous engagement trainings are assets.
  • Ability to coordinate projects with multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and design initiatives for community, cultural, recreation, land-use and master planning projects.
  • Develop concepts, frameworks and implementation strategies aligned with community aspirations.
  • Prepare and oversee high-quality reports, presentations, graphics and design materials.
  • Lead site analyses, opportunities and constraints assessments and visioning exercises.
  • Integrate landscape architecture, planning, engineering and Indigenous perspectives into project outcomes.
  • Mentor junior planners, designers and emerging professionals.

Our Burnaby studio is seeking a Landscape Architect IV - Design and Community Planning. This is a newly created position.

What You’ll Do
Lead Planning and Design Initiatives
  • Lead and contribute to community, cultural, recreation, land-use, infrastructure and master planning projects.
  • Develop concepts, frameworks and implementation strategies that align community aspirations with practical delivery pathways.
  • Prepare and oversee high-quality reports, presentations, graphics and design materials.
  • Lead site analysis, opportunities and constraints assessments, visioning exercises and concept development.
  • Integrate landscape architecture, planning, engineering, cultural planning and Indigenous perspectives into coherent project outcomes.
Community Planning and Engagement
  • Support well-informed planning and design processes with municipal, First Nations, Métis and Indigenous organizations.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings and engagement activities with community members, leadership and technical staff.
  • Assist project teams in applying sound planning approaches to develop short-, mid- and long-range plans.
Client Relationship Management
  • Act as a day-to-day client contact for assigned projects.
  • Support client satisfaction by proactively identifying challenges, opportunities and implementation considerations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and senior leadership to maintain strong client relationships.
  • Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation and interviews.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and develop new client relationships.
Project Delivery and Coordination
  • Manage components of scope, schedule and budget for medium-sized assignments.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams that may include landscape architects, planners, architects, engineers, engagement specialists and environmental professionals.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate risks and opportunities to project leadership.
  • Support quality management and technical excellence across all deliverables.
  • Contribute to successful project delivery from proposal through implementation.
Leadership and Mentorship
  • Mentor junior planners, designers and emerging professionals.
  • Share expertise related to Indigenous engagement, master planning, facilitation and community-based design.
  • Support studio growth through collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to development of tools, templates and best practices that strengthen delivery across Canada.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Education and Credentials
  • BA/BS + six (6) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional registration, eligibility for registration, or active pursuit of registration is considered an asset.
  • IAP2, Indigenous engagement training, facilitation training, or related certifications are considered assets.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across clients, communities and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong facilitation, communication and consensus-building skills.
  • Experience coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders and technical disciplines.
  • Ability to operate independently while contributing to larger project teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical and Professional Experience
  • 7-12 years of progressive experience in landscape architecture, planning, community development, Indigenous planning, cultural planning, or a related field.
  • Degree or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Design, Community Planning or related field.
  • Registration or Eligibility as a Full Member of a Provincial Landscape Architecture Association, with the expectation of full membership status within 6 months of employment.
  • Experience delivering projects for public sector agencies, municipalities, Indigenous communities and institutional clients.
  • Experience developing strategic plans, master plans, recreation plans, cultural plans, land-use plans, community plans or related initiatives.
  • Strong report writing, graphic communication and presentation skills.
Software and Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience with landscape architecture, planning and design software as appropriate to your discipline.
  • Strong visual communication and presentation capabilities.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $100000 to $130000.

To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
