Labourer 1 - Parks Maintenance

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your municipal career! Our Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is looking for Labourers to work seasonally in the Parks Maintenance division on a temporary full‑time basis from March 2026 to October 2026. This opportunity offers full‑time hours with the possibility of re‑call in the following year. Duties and responsibilities of Labourers working in Parks Maintenance include, but are not restricted to:

  • Grass Cutting
  • Sodding
  • Leaf Raking
  • Litter Pick‑Up
  • Construction
  • Fence Construction and Maintenance
  • Performing related duties as required

The position requires knowledge and skill in the methods, tools and equipment, techniques, and materials used in general construction, landscaping and maintenance work. Related education up to high school graduation, as well as landscaping and grounds maintenance experience, are considered assets; hands‑on experience with related tools and equipment is preferred. As this position involves continuous heavy physical work in all weather conditions, sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination are required. Other desired attributes include safe work practices, excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.

Location: Still Creek Works Yard

Hours of work: Typically, 80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Availability 7 days a week between 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM is required as some staff may be required to work weekends and evening hours as operationally required.
