A leading global inspection company is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician in Quebec. The role involves conducting a variety of tests on metal ores and industrial minerals. Ideal candidates have 3-5 years of laboratory experience, strong attention to detail, and effective English communication skills. A post-secondary education in a Science field is highly desirable. The position requires compliance with health and safety policies and may involve shift work.

Job Description

This position will conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and job description applies to Senior Laboratory Technicians in the Canadian metallurgical operations, in the technical areas of Mineral Processing, Gold Processing, Hydrometallurgy, Geometallurgy, Environmental Testing, and position is distinguished from Technician (Met / Min) position by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of assigned duties.

  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Conduct routine and experimental testing.
  • Record test data and communicate test results.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Install and operate equipment and systems.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Follow all company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor.
  • May be assigned or coordinate special or ad hoc projects.
  • May be designated Shift Supervisor on an as-required basis.
Education
  • A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Good hand / eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
  • A post-secondary education (degree and / or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering etc.) is highly desirable.
Experience
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting is a strong asset.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Incumbents must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Good time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
  • Must ensure full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
