Qualifications

Job Description

The Lab Technician carries out the responsibility of sampling, analyzing waste movements in and out of the facility. Responsible for assisting with managing hazardous waste storage, treatment, appropriate disposal, health and safety, compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies, and compliance within the laboratory.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure work within the lab is in compliance with our ECA and Health and Safety;
  • Determine waste acceptability in accordance with facility’s waste analysis plan;
  • Maintain and update all laboratory documents as required by company policies and procedures as well as appropriate regulatory agencies;
  • Identify and authorize disposal of lab residues in accordance with regulatory requirements;
  • Interpret analytical data and advise appropriate personnel in the proper treatment of waste materials;
  • Operate laboratory to include waste samples, analysis of waste, storage, and appropriate disposal according to quality assurance and control standards;
  • Work with appropriate in-house personnel as well as customers to streamline approvals and resolve analytical issues;
  • Maintain integrity of instrumentation according to regulatory standards;
  • Tracks and collects Certificates of Disposal;
  • Assists in facility’s receiving functions as requested;
  • Work with the TSR to ensure waste profiles are being created properly and provide assistance and direction as needed;
  • On site services with customers as required..ie waste identification, lab packs;
  • Any lab supplies, requested will go through your direct supervisor for approval;
  • Maintain awareness and share information regarding new and better methods of doing business;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current applicable regulations;
  • Carry out all company policies;
  • Enforces all compliance, health and safety, and other pertinent compliance issues in accordance with regulatory and company policies;
  • Provide a safe and compliant work environment;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab CoOrdinator/Division manager.
Qualifications
  • Prior work experience of 3 to 5 years in the hazardous waste industry preferred;
  • Degree in Chemistry or related technical discipline required
  • Knowledge of a Centrifuge operation an asset
  • Knowledge of regulations 347, Schedule 4.
  • Resourcefulness and initiative;

  • Able to operate ICP, GC, Karl Fisher, etc.;

Work Environment

Permanent position offered on a full time basis, with working schedules from Monday to Friday, day time.

Spends 80% time in laboratory environment. Spends 20% in a plant and field environment.
Makes visits to existing and potential customer facilities.
