What's the role

Shell is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their team in Michigan City, Indiana

Accountabilities
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment in the laboratory
  • Represent QA Laboratory in daily production meetings
  • Executes ISO Quality Management System (QMS) procedures/standards critical to product realization and conformity requirements
  • Arrange for safe and procedurally-correct recycle of mercury and disposal of mercury-containing waste
  • Knowledgeable accuracy, precision, limitations, applicability, standards, and calibrations. Interprets, records and reports data accurately - acts if needed
  • Coordinate the procurement of reagents and other supplies and services needed to run the laboratory
  • Collect and analyze composite, grab and other requested samples from the plant
  • Follow the standard procedures, perform required analytical tests on samples and notified supervision of any out of specification results
  • Perform quality control testing on composite samples of railcars and overseas shipping containers, following standard analytical procedures.
  • Enter analytical results into quality reporting database (PQR) in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform required testing on reference samples to ensure quality of results generated, responding to any out-of-control signals on reference sampled Statistical Process Control Charts
  • Analyze samples sent from other sites such as receiving sites, Technical Service, Projects & Technologies
  • Use of SAP to release and track QA results of shipments and to input work notifications for laboratory infrastructure maintenance
  • Participate in equipment troubleshooting, organizes equipment calibration in accordance with the ISO Quality Management System (QMS) and schedules/performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Perform drafts, reviews, and improves testing Laboratory procedures in line with policies and standards
What you bring
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry or a related field is plus
  • Broad knowledge of safe chemical laboratory bench work practices
  • Demonstrated abilities to troubleshoot instrumentation and method related issues
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow written lab procedures, plant standards, safety documents, and instrument manuals to ensure accurate test replication and compliance
  • Ability to create basic PowerPoint presentations with clear, well-structured content, including charts and graphs that effectively communicate information
  • Must be able to communicate on the telephone with all levels of Shell Catalyst & Technologies (SC&T) and associated companies, vendors, and customers
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Excel, Word, SAP, and PI Vision
  • Knowledge and/or experience in using equipment such as computers; hand tools; hydraulic press; carts; scales; mini spray dryer; X-ray fluorescence instruments; mercury porosimeter; and general laboratory equipment is considered a plus
  • Must be willing to work beyond the standard 40-hour workweek, including non-standard hours and rotating shifts
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed for training and company business
What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $104,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full‑time or regular part‑time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non‑birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short‑term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long‑Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such as financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long‑term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
