Overview

Responsibilities
  • This position will supervise all activities and staff within the laboratory.
  • Schedule the workflow throughout the department by meeting turnaround and quality standards.
  • Solve all day-to-day process and technical problems.
  • Report customer results.
  • Schedule workflow through the department so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion, monitor throughput and performance.
  • Monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Responsible for the quality of all data released by the department.
  • Solve day to day production and process problems within the department.
  • Work in partnership with Lab Manager and assistant Lab supervisor to solve client problems to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met.
  • Plan and initiate procedures and systems necessary to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the company quality program.
  • Calculate and report final customer results.
  • Review and sign certificates and reports of analysis.
  • Develop new laboratory methods in response to client/market needs.
  • Accountable for maintaining production and quality targets, and ensuring optimum staff levels to achieve production, quality and financial targets.
  • Ensuring each person within their responsibility has undergone an orientation and has sufficient knowledge for their safety and health while at work.
  • Ensuring that each person has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring all safety equipment is in place on a daily basis.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Geology, Mineralogy or Chemical Engineering etc.) is a strong asset.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a minerals/geochemical analysis related field.
  • 1 – 3 years of previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in supervising small technical teams, ideally including supervising people in a minerals related laboratory.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Having a valid and up-to-date passport as travel to other international SGS and client locations could be required.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
Additional Information

Compensation: $35 to $40 per hour / 40 hours per week.
