Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support patient testing across Vancouver and Richmond. The role involves phlebotomy, ECG monitoring, and coordinating specimen processing in a part-time regular float capacity.

The candidate will work Sundays to Saturdays, with seven days a week availability and two days off per week. Ability to work alone during breaks and at various PSCs is required. Start date ASAP.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Proficient data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process and ensure protocol adherence.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, 24-hour BP monitoring, and ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections and complete related documentation (drugs screens, paternity tests, clinical trials).
  • Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, and follow up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of patient demographics, requisition information, and processing details.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Laboratory Assistant

Status: Part Time Regular Float

Schedule: Sundays to Saturdays

Additional requirements: The successful candidate will be working at various PSC's in Vancouver and Richmond. The successful candidate must be available to work 7 days a week and will be given 2 days off a week that may not be consecutive days. The successful candidate will be required to work alone at certain times of the day while staff are on their breaks.

Responsibilities
  • Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, 24- hour blood pressure monitoring, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
What You Will Bring To The Role
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent related experience such as working as a healthcare professional with previous training or experience in phlebotomy, intravenous infusion and/or intravenous therapy (e.g. nurses, infusion therapist, cardiac technologist etc.).
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Proficient data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively relate to patients and health care providers.
