Job summary

LifeLabs is seeking Mobile Laboratory Assistants to cover on-site patient care across private homes, facilities, and long-term care sites in the Nanaimo area.

The role is temporary full-time with varying shifts Monday–Friday 6–3 and potential weekends. Start ASAP with a contract end date of 1 September, 2027. A valid Class 5 license and a clean driving record are required. Union BCGEU; vaccination is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle.
• Satisfactory criminal reference check.
• Excellent communication skills to relate with a wide variety of people.
• Problem solving skills and ability to think quickly on your feet.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Organizing a daily schedule of visits to facilities and private residences to collect specimens as per physicians’ requests, and planning your route according to courier times, specimen integrity and required travel time.
• Performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting Holter monitors, and performing ECG tracings.
• Collecting and delivering specimens to designated labs for testing. Accession, spin, separate and prepare for transport to reference lab as required.
• Booking patient appointments, requesting required information from patients, explaining the specimen collection process and ensuring patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Liaising with doctors and facility staff regarding patient problems, changes in scheduling, specimen collection procedures, and other matters.

Status: Temporary Full Time (Float)

Shifts: Varying hours Monday-Friday 6-3, potentially weekends.

This vacancy is for an existing position.

Selected candidates are required to be fully vaccinated with Covid 19 vaccinations, and a booster shot for this role.

Additional comments: The successful candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience, a valid Class 5 driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and must meet all applicable insurance requirements associated with their employment at LifeLabs.
