Job summary

Dynacare is hiring a Laboratory Assistant for the Vernon LHSC site. You will process samples, enter requisitions and results, and provide excellent patient-centered service in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements include CSMLS/BCSLS or MLA certification, phlebotomy experience, strong English, and ability to work in a 100% onsite role across LHSC locations. Pay ranges from $27.00 to $30.75 per hour with a permanent full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• CSMLS/BCSLS certification or MLA program graduate is required.
• Bachelor degree in related scientific discipline or nursing, or international MLA/MLT qualification, with min 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Demonstrate phlebotomy skill and manage anxious patients calmly.
• Attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.
• Proficiency in English, good communication with patients.
• Willingness to attend shifts at various LHSC sites across the region.
• Typing speed 25–40 wpm required.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience for products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples using venipuncture techniques in line with Dynacare values.
• Sort and steer specimens and perform ECGs.
• Ensure specimens and docs are completed per SOPs and ready for data entry and transport.
• Maintain confidentiality and support quality metrics and regulatory compliance.

As a Laboratory Assistant - LHSC,you are responsible for processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately - all in a timely manner.You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. Testing results are often critical for patients, and you are there to help and make an impact on their lives.

Status: Permanent Full-Time

Hours of Work: Mon-Fri, 8.00am - 4.30pm

How YOU will make a difference:

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens and perform ECG’s
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian)
  • Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific discipline or nursing, or international MLA or MLT qualification, AND a minimum of 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may also be considered
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
• Ability to attend shifts at various LHSCs across region
• 25 to 40 words per minute typing speed required

Pay rate: $27.00-$30.75 per hour

the hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
