A regional healthcare facility in Red Deer, Alberta, seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to provide quality service in the clinical laboratory. Responsibilities include procurement, testing of specimens, and reporting results. The ideal candidate will have completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program and demonstrate strong laboratory skills, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a team. This is a casual/relief position with varying shifts.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
Recent experience in a Transfusion Medicine Laboratory and / or Wellsky LIS is an asset. Experience assisting with Bone Marrow sample collections.
