Overview

Your Opportunity: The Alberta Children's Hospital is a warm & vibrant workplace with team members providing service to children & their families from Alberta Precision Labs. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Stat Laboratory team as a Technical Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our Rapid Response Lab team where you are responsible for performing all aspects within the scope of practice of a Technical MLA focusing on macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis, GeneXpert sample processing, Transfusion Medicine, specimen handling, equipment maintenance along with other duties as required. With a customer service focused approach, you build productive and respectful customer relations and take responsibility for customer satisfaction. You have an ability to influence change by encouraging others, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. In addition to your strong attention to detail and good judgement, you are highly organized and have proven communication skills that enable you to work collaboratively within our fast-paced ever-changing environment. This position is primarily 7 on - 7 off.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities are aligned with the scope of practice of a Technical MLA, including urinalysis preparation and analysis, processing specimens, maintaining equipment, performing gene testing workflows, handling specimens for transfusion medicine, and supporting rapid response laboratory operations as needed.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications

Experience using Connect Care/EPIC Laboratory Information System. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Sharepoint, Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using WellSky. Experience in the last 12 months as a Technical MLA in an Urban Rapid Response Lab setting. Experience in macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis. Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and equipment. Experience in bone marrow collection. Experience in Transfusion Medicine.
