Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Chemical Technology, Laboratory Technology, or related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience in oil & gas, water treatment, or chemical testing preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based lab environment.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, TDG, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, prepare, and analyze oil, water, polymer, and chemical samples.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine water quality and polymer solution testing.
  • Record, trend, and report results.
  • Provide technical support to operations and engineering teams.
  • Maintain accurate sample logs and lab documentation.
  • Ensure lab safety standards and WHMIS compliance.

Job description

Our customer, a major oil and gas company, is currently looking for a Laboratory Technologist for their operations in the Pelican Lake area. The successful candidate will part of the production and polymer flood support group, playing a critical role in ensuring field samples and lab programs meet operational, regulatory, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze oil, water, polymer, and chemical samples from field facilities.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (viscometers, balances, titrators, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, etc.).
  • Perform routine water quality and polymer solution testing to support injection and production optimization.
  • Record, trend, and report results.
  • Provide technical support to operations and engineering teams by interpreting lab results and recommending follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate sample logs, calibration records, and lab documentation.
  • Ensure lab safety standards, WHMIS compliance, and safe chemical handling always.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Chemical Technology, Laboratory Technology, or related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience in oil & gas, water treatment, or chemical testing preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based lab environment.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, data entry, lab reporting software).
  • Safety-focused with knowledge of WHMIS, TDG, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
