Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services in Etobicoke, ON is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team on a six-month temporary contract. This role will involve performing manual and automated chemistry testing under the supervision of a medical laboratory technologist, with a focus on accuracy and patient safety.

You will handle specimen data entry, triage tests as needed, and maintain instruments and reagents while following LifeLabs procedures and QA standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma.
• MLPAO certification required.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to resolve specimen inquiries.
• Good understanding of Quality Assurance and apply it to ensure quality results.
• Knowledge of pre-analytical procedures including specimen receipt and handling.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a diverse range of work activities with accuracy and efficiency to provide quality results.
• Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritization of specimens and results.
• Data entry of specimens and triaging testing as appropriate.
• Perform manual and automated testing under supervision.
• Address Quality Assurance indicators and escalate as needed.
• Identify incidents and non-conformances and elevate when appropriate.
• Maintain instrument/equipment at defined maintenance intervals.
• Prepare reagents and controls using defined procedures.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
• Monitor supplies and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Adhere to safety procedures and LifeLabs policies.

Lab Technician OPSEU LABLifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in Etobicoke, ON. This is an important role in patient care and our business. This role will allow you to see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.
Status: Temporary Full time (6 month contract)
Schedule: Monday to Friday 11:00 pm to 7:00 am
Discipline: Chemistry
Additional Requirements: Some weekend shifts or statutory holiday shifts are required.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Responsible for carrying out a diverse range of work activities; ensure all duties and responsibilities are prioritized and handled with accuracy and efficiency providing quality results
• Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritization of specimens and results, following LifeLabs Procedures
• Data entry of specimens, while triaging testing as appropriate.
• Perform manual and automated testing in accordance with LifeLabs Procedures under the direct supervision of a medical laboratory technologist
• Perform procedures required to address Quality Assurance indicators as defined, consulting with resources where necessary
• Identify incidents and non-conformances; elevate as appropriate
• Conduct and record instrument/equipment maintenance at appropriate, defined intervals
• Prepare and utilize reagents and controls using defined procedures
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information
• Monitor and maintain adequate amounts and proper usage of laboratory supplies
• Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment
• Ensure bio hazardous and routine garbage is handled in compliance with Environment, Health and Safety procedures
• Work in a manner that protects one’s own health & safety as well as the safety of co-workers and others, and that is consistent with the law and with safe work practices and procedures established by LifeLabs

What You Will Bring To The Role

• High School diploma
• Strong familiarity with APX and IntrLab systems.
• MLPAO certification is required.
• Ability to problem solve and resolve issues surrounding specimen inquiries (queries, pending, etc)
• Must demonstrate a good understanding of Quality Assurance and be ble to apply this knowledge at the right time to ensure good quality results.
• Understand pre-analytical procedures including specimen receipt, proper sample handling and preparation in relation to Quality Assurance.
• Instrumentation experience or medical laboratory testing experience is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment while adhering to LifeLabs standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency
