Job summary

Public Health Ontario is seeking a Laboratory Attendant 2 to provide technical laboratory services for the environmental laboratory and support operations at the Toronto location.

The role involves handling specimens, preparing culture media, entering data, and assisting with equipment and stock management. Contract position (4 months) with full-time hours at 661 University Ave, Toronto.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a recognized community college program or relevant training and experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory safety procedures to provide a range of laboratory services.
• Knowledge of computer systems and laboratory information systems; MS Office products such as Word and Excel.
• Proficient with automated, computer-driven equipment and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Logs, sorts, labels all specimens submitted for laboratory testing/examination.
• Transports samples to testing laboratory as required.
• Handles, prepares and processes medical samples for identification of micro-organisms and testing.
• Enters data entry results of water samples and related information.
• Uses laboratory analyzers or manual methods to prepare samples for testing.
• Maintains PHO Laboratory Information System worksheets and data confidentiality.
