Job summary

Magna International in Guelph, Ontario is seeking a Lab Team Leader to assign, audit and schedule work, ensure IATF standards, and lead the team in problem solving. Qualifications

  • Immediate, open position with compensation.
  • 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in an automotive environment (GM, Ford, FCA, Toyota - Plastics).
  • Familiar with PPAP submissions, OEM launch process and APQP (PFMEA, Control plans).
  • Previous supervisory training & experience.
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading and calibration requirements.
  • Experience with dimensional studies and gauging; gauge R&R.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and support automated production cells to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform daily equipment start-up checks and inspections.
  • Carry out autonomous maintenance activities, including cleaning, lubrication, and routine inspections.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and support maintenance teams with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Record and categorize equipment downtime in the downtime tracking system.
  • Create maintenance work requests and complete work orders within the EAM system.
  • Support equipment reliability, uptime, and overall production performance.
  • Assist with robot programming, process adjustments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain 5S standards and workplace organization.
  • Update and maintain visual management boards, performance metrics, and team communication displays.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and productivity improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities
Job Profile

The Lab Team Leader is responsible for assigning, auditing and scheduling work for employees in the Lab. Ensures IATF standards are met. Leads team in problem solving and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB
  • Immediate, open position $93,300 - $103,700 annual compensation
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Must have 3 - 5 years’ experience in an automotive environment (GM, Ford, FCA, Toyota - Plastics) and be familiar with PPAP submissions, OEM launch process and APQP (PFMEA, Control plans, etc.).
  • Previous supervisory training & experience.
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, engineering standards, customer specifications, dimensional studies, gaging systems, and calibration requirements.
  • Must have previous experience with dimensional studies and gauging (gauge accuracy, gauge R&R, calibrations).
  • Knowledge of product and process characteristics, including paint appearance, film builds, durability, and process capability.
  • Must be familiar with GM, Ford, FCA, and Toyota physical, performance and appearance testing.
  • Computer proficiency to include experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (English - spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, supervisory experience, and a commitment to safety.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making and time management skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills regarding overall workload scheduling.
  • Willingness to travel and must have valid passport.
