Job summary

Ciena Corporation in Ottawa seeks an overnight Lab Engineer to support global product verification and software design activities. This role provides onsite lab support aligned to India business hours, coordinating with offshore teams to ensure stable lab environments and timely issue resolution.

You will reconfigure optical systems, install software loads, diagnose hardware issues, and maintain records of configurations and equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum College Diploma as a Technician.
• 3+ years of experience in R&D lab management and support organizations.
• Extensive knowledge of R&D lab environments.
• Strong working knowledge of Ciena Optical Products.
• Working knowledge of corporate tools such as JIRA and GEMS.
• Ability to work an assigned shift during India hours (10 p.m.–10 a.m. EST) and other overnight shifts as required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver first-level lab assistance to offshore Product Verification and Software Design teams during India business hours.
• Resolve lab support requests involving infrastructure, network connectivity, computing, and test equipment.
• Reconfigure Ciena optical systems using provided technical documentation and system drawings.
• Install and validate software loads on Ciena equipment used for development and testing.
• Diagnose and repair failed circuit packs and basic hardware issues.
• Maintain accurate records of lab support activities, configurations, and issue resolution.
• Manage lab equipment logistics including installation, relocation, maintenance, and inventory tracking.

The must haves:

• Experience: 3+ years of experience in R&D lab management and support organizations
• Extensive knowledge of R&D lab environments
• Strong working knowledge of Ciena Optical Products
• Working knowledge of corporate tools such as JIRA and GEMS
• Ability to work an assigned shift during the core India hours (10 p.m.–10 a.m. EST) and other overnight shifts as required, following the Ciena India work schedule and statutory holidays
• Pay Range: The hourly pay range for this position is C$24.37/hr – $35.00/hr CAD. Night-shift premium will also be added.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
