Job summary

EXP in Burnaby, BC is seeking a Lab Manager/Supervisor to lead EXP's soils and materials laboratory. You will oversee day-to-day operations, mentor staff, manage projects and ensure quality across soil, aggregate, asphalt and concrete testing for Western Canada infrastructure and development projects.

The role combines laboratory leadership with project delivery responsibilities, ensuring compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, CCIL and BC Ministry requirements while delivering high‑quality services

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• 5–10 years of construction materials testing experience.
• 3+ years of laboratory leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience in CCIL-accredited laboratories is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily laboratory operations for soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete testing.
• Coordinate testing schedules and allocate resources to meet project deadlines.
• Provide technical oversight for geotechnical and construction materials testing.
• Review and approve laboratory test results and reports.
• Maintain CCIL accreditation and quality management system requirements.
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, CSA and BC specifications.
• Oversee equipment calibration, maintenance and replacement planning.
• Lead safety initiatives and ensure WorkSafeBC compliance.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory personnel.
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, productivity and profitability.
• Support clients, project managers, audits and continuous improvement activities.
