Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy experience is required.

  • Ability to maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and provide information to patients about specimen collection.
  • Perform phlebotomies and ECG tracings.
  • Conduct special test collections like drug screens and paternity tests.
  • Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries.
  • Complete data entry of patient demographics and requisition information.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

LifeLabs is currently looking for a Lab Patient Technician to join our team in Thunder Bay, ON. This is a part-time role working up to 20 hours per week, suitable for an individual with a flexible schedule and includes the opportunity to pick up additional shifts at other LifeLabs locations.

Hours of operation: Thunder Bay PSCs are M-F 7:30am-5:00pm. Employees can be scheduled at any of the 3 locations; shifts range 4-8 hours in length. Expectation is to cover last minute sick calls and potentially be scheduled for vacation coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect / disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Additional information

Hiring Range: 24.02 - 28.05 per hour. The final salary recommendation will be determined based on experience, education, market conditions, and internal equity.
