Job summary

Dynacare in Strathroy, ON, is hiring a Laboratory Assistant for permanent, full-time work (37 hours/week). Day shifts 8:00 am–4:15 pm, Monday–Friday plus Saturdays per the collective agreement. Start date as soon as possible. Competitive pay and benefits offered in a supportive lab environment.

You will collect samples, enter data, perform phlebotomy, and help ensure high-quality patient experiences while meeting regulatory and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Secondary school completion and a laboratory assistant training program or medical lab assistant course with phlebotomy training.
• Strong customer focus with genuine care for patient health.
• Detail oriented with ability to explain instructions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients.
• Enter data and patient/test information for requisitions accurately.
• Perform venipuncture with empathy and maintain patient comfort.
• Sort specimens and ensure proper handling per SOPs for transport to the lab.
• Maintain confidentiality and support quality metrics and compliance.

Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests, all in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values. Working as part of a team, you are assisting in building a positive team environment and maintaining quality metrics. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness.

Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Guaranteed 37 hours a week

Shift: Day Shifts, 8:00 am – 4:15 pm; Monday – Friday and Saturday's as per the Collective Agreement

How YOU will make a difference:

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECG’s, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended
• Pay rate: $19.75 -$22.25 per hour
• The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
