Job summary

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant (Float) to support quality blood collection and specimen processing across our Ontario sites. You will join a collaborative team, performing venipuncture, specimen handling, and data entry in a patient-focused environment.

The role requires phlebotomy training, strong English communication, and a customer-first approach. This contract position offers day shifts and potential for growth within a respected health services provider.

Qualifications

• Completed secondary school and a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistant course with specialized phlebotomy training.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Demonstrate phlebotomy skills and calm anxious patients during sample collection.
• Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Extremely detail oriented.
• Proficiency in English, written and spoken.
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification strongly recommended.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience for our products and services.
• Enter data, patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions accurately.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens using venipuncture per SOPs and Dynacare values.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Ensure documentation and specimens are ready for data entry and transport to the laboratory per established protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and regulatory compliance.

As a Laboratory Assistant (Float), you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests, all in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values. Working as part of a team, you are assisting in building a positive team environment and maintaining quality metrics. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness.

Status: Contract, Part-Time, 6 months (Guaranteed 24 hours a week)

Shift: Day Shifts, varies between 6:30 am – 5:30 pm; Monday – Saturday

Float Locations: Kitchener, Niagara Falls, Hamilton and Burlington, ON

How YOU Will Make a Difference

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECG’s, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU Bring To The Role

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.

Pay rate: $21.00 -$23.25 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
