Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Christmas Kettle Scheduler plays a key role in the success of this annual fundraiser through the recruitment and scheduling of volunteers, as well as supporting the kettle coordinator as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Will assist in the recruitment of Kettle Workers (volunteers), assisting with orientation
  • Help coordinate the schedule for kettle staff & volunteers, and responds to emergency absences
  • Make phone calls and send emails to recruit, retain and schedule volunteers
  • Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with kettle sites
  • May deliver and pick-up kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations
  • May host at the kettle, as required, to ensure necessary coverage for breaks
  • Record statistical data as required, for local/divisional/territorial offices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

Internal: Community & Family Services team (staff and volunteers), Corps Officers, Kettle Coordinator

External: Community Partners, volunteers, neighbourhood associations, service groups, store representatives.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer and Kettle Coordinator.
  • This role works independently (within a team) and does not manage or supervise internal staff but may supervise volunteers.
  • Represent The Salvation Army as directed.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

Ensure that ministry unit policies and procedures are followed for the safe/secure handling of all monetary donations received and appropriate documentation is maintained.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
  • Some flexibility in scheduling required, some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
  • May deal with difficult people and verbal abuse.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.
  • Some travel locally and throughout the Kamloops area will be required.

Normal hours of work - see below

  • Temporary Part Time: 21 hours work per week until November 1, 40 hours work per week until the contract ends (schedule to be determined after hiring) Schedules will fluctuate and flexibility will be required
  • October 20, 2025 - December 24, 2025

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

  • A minimum 2-year college diploma or equivalent
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • A minimum of two (2) years\' related experience (in fundraising and volunteer management)
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with and establish relationship with volunteers
  • Hold a valid Class 5 drivers license, and provide a copy of a drives abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion. A program vehicle may be used for travel when required
  • Skills and Capabilities: Demonstrate competence in developing and maintaining appropriate volunteer relationships
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately
  • A team player: ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental manner
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change
  • Communication — strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening as required
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.43 with a maximum of $24.52. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
