Job summary

The Salvation Army in Ontario is hiring a temporary Kettle Campaign Worker to support the Christmas Kettle effort. You will assist with kettle placement, cash handling, and coordinating staff and volunteers in malls and stores.

Flexibility in shifts, strong customer service, and ability to lift moderate weights are important. Local travel and safety compliance are required; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.
• Minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service.
• Money handling experience is an asset.
• Experience in office administration; proficient with WORD and EXCEL.
• Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s Licence, personal vehicle and insurance.

Responsibilities

• Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
• Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff/volunteer arrival.
• Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift end.
• Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
• Orient and remind staff/volunteers on kettle duties and safety.
• Supervise and assign staff/volunteers during the Campaign.
• Record weekly timesheets and assist with scheduling needs.
• Maintain security of donations and respond to donor inquiries.

Accountabilities

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below

• Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.

• Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer’s arrival at Campaign onset.
• Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
• Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
• Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
• Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign.
• Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
• Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
• Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
• Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
• Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
• Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers.
• Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
• Orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
• Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
• Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
• Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations; may deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
• Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
• Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
• Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
• Post campaign; organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
• Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• This is a temporary position.
• Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a 1/2 hour unpaid meal break.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
• Work environment is typically in malls/stores
• Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
• Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
• Local travel is associated with this position.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

• Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

• A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service.
• Money handling experience is an asset.
• Experience in office administration.
• Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
• Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
