Qualifications

  • Experience in general boiler and pressure vessel construction, inspection, operation and maintenance.
  • Understanding of maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, inspect, evaluate, and consult with Clients at insured locations.
  • Conduct risk-based, loss-control focused inspections of boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Accurately collect nameplate information and safety devices testing.

Job description

The Jurisdictional Consultant is responsible for learning and developing the skills required to manage, inspect, evaluate, and consult with Clients at a variety of insured locations for jurisdictional purposes. More precisely, they are responsible for conducting risk-based, loss-control focused, in-service inspections of boilers and pressure vessels as per Ontario’s jurisdictional laws and regulations respecting pressure vessels, such as the TSSA Ontario Regulation 220/01), CSA B51 and B52 codes, National Board Inspection Codes, as well as applicable ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, and FM requirements and standards. They accurately collect nameplate information, sizing, safety devices testing and maintenance record of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure they operate safely prior to issuing certificate of inspection. Expected overnight travel is about 20% annually.

Skills and competencies
  • Holder of Ontario Certificate of Competency for Boiler and Pressure Vessel inspections. A National Board (IS) Commission, and (R) Endorsement is considered an asset, but not required.
  • Ability to use current technology including software products to document inspection services, such as Jurisdiction Online (JOL).
  • Computer skills to use Word Document and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently from a home office
Education

The candidate's key assets are his/her level of experience as well as the inspector license. The candidate may have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a technical degree, or a 2-year technical school or high school diploma.

Experience

Experience in general boiler and pressure vessel construction, inspection, operation and maintenance, mechanical and electrical equipment, understanding of maintenance management systems, and good understanding of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods and results are vital.
