Job summary

Allnorth Consultants Limited is seeking a Junior Structural Designer to join our team. You will produce general arrangements, layout and detail drawings, using AutoCAD and related design software, while collaborating with engineers, other designers, vendors and clients.

Based in Vancouver, you should be willing to work from the office, with field visits to sites as required and a strong focus on delivering accurate drawings that meet project schedules and company standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma of Technology in civil/structural program required.
• 1–3 years’ design experience using AutoCAD.
• Understanding of construction processes.
• Experience with concrete and structural steel design.
• Asset: Advanced Steel and 3D modelling.
• ASTTBC or ASET membership is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineers and Designers to deliver drawings and final construction/detail drawings.
• Prepare bills of materials for concrete and steel structures.
• Develop and prepare designs from concepts to specifications.
• Ensure drawing accuracy and appropriate level of detail for fabrication.
• Manage drawing revisions and file administration.
• Deliver drawing packages on project schedule.
• Complete documentation packages and drawing sets.

We are seeking a Junior Structural Designer to join our team. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for producing general arrangements, layout and detail drawings, while adhering to company procedures, engineering criteria, design standards and applicable codes. You will work using AutoCAD and other design software and interface regularly with other disciplines, vendors and clients. Field visits to site may be required as well as a strong commitment to fostering and maintaining strong relationships with our customers. Due to the nature of our business, the successful candidates must be willing to work out of the office as required.

ADayintheLife

• Assist Engineers and other Designers to deliver design drawings and final construction/detail drawings for engineering projects
• Prepare supporting information by developing bills of materials for concrete and steel structures
• Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings, from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data, conforming to the applicable Allnorth formats
• Responsible for drawing presentation, accuracy and determining sufficient levels of detail required to facilitate fabrication
• Understand drawing configuration and revisions, including proper file administration during drawing development
• Modify drawings to incorporate changes
• Deliver drawing packages within the project schedule
• Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets

• 1-3 years’ design experience using AutoCAD in civil/structural design-drafting
• Diploma of Technology in a civil/structural program
• Understanding of construction processes
• Working knowledge of concrete and structural steel design
• Experience using Advanced Steel and 3d modelling would be an asset
• Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-disciplined environment
• Membership with ASTTBC or ASET would be an asset
• A valid driver’s license is required for this position
• Technical competence and strong attention to detail
