Job Description

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the team developing the VESTA 9-1-1 Call Handling solution. In this role, you will leverage agentic AI to build applications, automate DevOps and Cybersecurity workflows, improving quality and operational efficiency. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across real‑time pipelines, telephony, backend infrastructure, and product surfaces. You’ll help influence architecture, build core product features, and shape how our team uses AI agents to move faster without compromising reliability, security, or product quality. We encourage engineers to use AI agents in their own work. But because this is mission‑critical software, humans still own quality, judgment, and what ships.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop components for and integrate services into our Emergency Call Handling Systems
  • Develop Agentic AI-powered automation workflows to improve efficiency of our DevOps and Cybersecurity tasks.
  • Help integrate AI techniques to improve evaluation, testing, and observability for our systems.
  • Get your hands dirty setting up and configuring hardware and software, including network devices and servers.
  • Build strong habits around tests, code review, observability, and security from day one.
  • Ask questions, dig into how things work, and bring fresh perspectives to the team.
You Might Be a Fit If
  • You enjoy converting manual, tedious procedures to autonomous AI-powered workflows then jumping onto the next high‑impact challenge.
  • You’re curious about working across backend, infrastructure, AI, and product, even if you haven’t done it all yet.
  • You use AI tools daily, but you do not confuse speed with quality.
  • You care about quality — you write tests, read documentation, and try to understand a system before you change it.
  • You take feedback well and act on it.
  • You have strong product instincts and care about the humans using what you build.
  • You thrive in a team where you’ll have real ownership early — and you’re comfortable asking for help.
Relevant Experience

We don’t expect you to have shipped production systems. We care most about engineering fundamentals, learning velocity, curiosity, and how you think. Coursework, internships, research, and personal projects all count.

Relevant Exposure May Include
  • Projects involving AI agents, AI pipelines or RAG systems.
  • Real‑time communication systems using WebRTC, WebSockets, RTP/SRTP, media streaming, or low‑latency audio transport.
  • Exposure to DevOps, Automation and CI/CD systems using tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Github, Artifactory
  • Programming in Python, C#, C++, Java, or similar languages
  • Comfortable scripting in both Linux and Windows and virtualization.
  • Telephony and voice infrastructure, including PSTN, SIP trunking, PBX, and call routing.
  • Bilingual French/English - Must be able to work also in English with our English‑speaking clients, customers and partners outside Quebec as well as with the rest of the colleagues in Canada, the United States and in other international countries as applicable.

You do not need experience in all of these areas. Most successful candidates will have experience in a few and curiosity to learn the rest.
