Job summary

PK Sound in Calgary, Alberta, seeks a Junior Software Engineer to develop features for our loudspeaker control apps, mobile tools, and internal PK software. You’ll contribute across the product lifecycle, collaborating with engineers, PMs, and customers worldwide to deliver robust software in a high-demand audio environment.

You will work on desktop and mobile projects, engage in testing, and help shape PK’s software strategy while traveling to venues as needed to validate software in real-world

Position Summary

PK is looking for a creative, self-starting Junior Software Engineer who is ready to develop new products with passion and precision.

You will design and implement new features in PK’s software projects: our loudspeaker remote control application (.dynamics), mobile applications, and internal PK software tools to aid in development and manufacturing. You will also participate in shaping the future of the software department at PK, helping to make long-term technology choices to improve and scale the software. Working with customers across the globe on some of the highest-profile events and venues, what you create will have a significant impact not only for the company but the millions of people who enjoy experiencing our technology.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain new and existing software products and infrastructure.
• Analyze, design, and develop tests and test-automation suites.
• Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle.
• Integrate electronic hardware, firmware, and software into complete systems.
• Ensure reliable operation of products under extreme conditions.
• Communicate progress and problems to management and other departments.
• Create product documentation and user manuals.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with business users, project managers, and other engineers.
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Travel to concert venues and festivals may be required for technical support or software testing.

Skills & Experience

• HTML & CSS, JavaScript with modern frameworks.
• Asynchronous programming.
• Good understanding of software design principles (e.g. SOLID, modularity, testability, etc.).
• Experience with AI coding tools.
• Test-driven development, mocking, assertion libraries.
• Desktop application development understanding.

Preference Given to Candidates With

• C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core RESTful services, and API development.
• Web development experience with Angular.

• Experience using the Cypress and/or Jest test frameworks.
• Experience working with DevOps infrastructure such as Microsoft Azure DevOps.
• Experience developing in both Mac and Windows OS environments.
• Agile product development lifecycle experience (Kanban, Scrum).
• Network programming (experience with UDP/TCP coding, protocol creation/development).
• Experience integrating software with embedded devices.
• Knowledge of the professional audio industry.

Education & Other Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a professional or co-op software development position, or an equivalent personal project portfolio.
• A valid passport, with the ability to travel without restriction.
