Job summary

RCS, a Calgary-based commercial construction management firm, is seeking a Junior Project Manager to join the Calgary team and support delivery of projects across Calgary and the surrounding area.

You will actively coordinate project documentation, schedules and budgets, own smaller projects from handover to closeout, and build trusted relationships with clients, consultants, trade partners and internal teams as you grow into larger projects.

Qualifications

  • 4–5 years of experience in commercial construction project coordination or management.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction lifecycle, from preconstruction handover through project closeout.
  • Hands-on experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, scheduling, forecasting, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Experience coordinating directly with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal construction teams.
  • Experience with tenant improvements, renovations, and/or new-build commercial projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Project Manager on smaller and less complex commercial construction projects, taking ownership from preconstruction handover through closeout.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, procurement, contracts, change orders, and project documentation within assigned projects.
  • Track project costs, commitments, forecasts, and billings, identifying and escalating significant risks or variances as needed.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, Superintendents, and internal project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, progress reports, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change management and closeout documentation.
  • Lead project and site meetings for assigned projects.
  • Identify project risks and issues early, develop practical solutions, and seek support from senior leadership when appropriate.
  • Manage project closeout, deficiency resolution, turnover, and warranty requirements for assigned projects.

Why This Role Exists

RCS is looking for a Junior Project Manager to join our Calgary team and support the successful delivery of commercial construction projects across Calgary and the surrounding area.

This role is designed for an experienced commercial construction professional who has built a strong foundation in project delivery and is ready to take the next step into project management. You understand how projects come together, can confidently coordinate people and priorities, and have the competence, confidence, and capacity to take ownership of projects.

What Success Looks Like

You will be independently managing smaller commercial construction projects from handover through closeout.

You will demonstrate strong control over project documentation, schedules, budgets, procurement, changes, and communication. You will be recognized as someone who takes ownership, anticipates issues, makes sound decisions within your level of responsibility, and knows when to escalat[e] or seek guidance.

You’ll build trusted relationships with clients, consultants, trade partners, and internal teams while consistently delivering a positive construction experience. As your capabilities and experience grow, you’ll take on increasingly larger and more complex projects

Key Responsibilities
Project Management

Client & Relationship Management
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients on assigned projects
  • Build positive, professional, and trust-based relationships with clients
  • Communicate proactively regarding project progress, priorities, issues, and next steps
  • Work collaboratively with consultants and trade partners to support successful project delivery
  • Contribute to a positive construction experience that supports long-term client relationships, repeat work, and referrals
Team Contribution & Growth
  • Work closely with Senior Project Managers and construction leadership to continue developing your project management capabilities
  • Take full ownership and accountability for the successful delivery of assigned projects
  • Take increasing ownership of larger and more complex projects as your experience and capabilities develop
  • Collaborate effectively with Superintendents and other members of the project team
  • Contribute to a positive, accountable, and solutions-focused team environment
  • Share lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement across projects
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications & Experience
  • 4–5 years of experience in commercial construction project coordination or management, ideally with a Commercial General Contractor
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction project lifecycle, from preconstruction handover through project closeout
  • Strong working knowledge of project documentation and processes, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, procurement, and closeout
  • Hands-on experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, scheduling, forecasting, billing, and financial reporting
  • Experience coordinating directly with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal construction teams
  • Experience with tenant improvements, renovations, and/or new-build commercial projects
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership, make decisions, solve problems, manage competing priorities, and follow through on commitments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the confidence to lead project conversations and coordinate multiple stakeholders
  • Sound judgment and the ability to independently manage day-day project matters while recognizing when senior-level support is required
  • Proficiency with Procore, MS Office, Teams, and MS Project, or similar project management software
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel within Calgary and surrounding areas
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for government projects
