Civil Engineering Co-op Students – Summer 2026 Opportunities

Sureway is one of Alberta’s largest heavy civil construction contractors. Sureway has 50 years of experience performing projects requiring civil earthworks and grading, utilities and off-sites, mine operation, aggregate extraction and construction management. Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Sureway’s projects are primarily located within Edmonton and surrounding areas, with projects extending as far north as the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Position: Junior Project Coordinator

Job Type: Full Time, Co-op, Starts May 2026, four (4) and/or eight (8) month duration

Interviews Start: mid-January 2026 (only successful candidates will be notified)

Schedule: 10 + Hours/day 6 & 1 Rotation, Schedule as per Operational Requirements, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week

Location: Edmonton and Surrounding Area’s

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements:

  • Personal Reliable Vehicle

Pre-employment:

  • Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Junior Project Coordinator overview:

  • Work closely with and assist the Project Manager and Construction Manager, where applicable, in the day to day duties of the project’s administration.
  • Monitor field work, including contract work, to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, specifications and codes.
  • Act as liaison with subcontractors in expediting drawings and related information.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs (Vendor/Subcontractor, Purchase, Owner, etc.), track responses and advise of the status of any changes.
  • Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with on-site policy and procedures, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements, and maintain project expediting list.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering program at a post-secondary institute.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Must have a good working knowledge ofMS Excel, MS Word, AutoCAD,Civil 3D and Trimble tsc3/tsc7.
  • Effective and professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as, being an independent self-starter
  • Must display and promote a continuous regard to safety.
