Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Engineer‑in‑Training for the BC Distribution team to shape power delivery projects across British Columbia. You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to deliver overhead and underground distribution design packages and ensure code compliance.

You will apply design calculations, perform quality reviews, and participate in site visits to support construction and on‑site execution, growing your expertise with coaching and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Eligibility for registration, or current registration, with ASTTBC.

Responsibilities

• Support a wide range of power services projects including new and upgraded services.
• Coordinate with clients, project managers, engineers and designers to ensure seamless delivery.
• Apply engineering calculations to design and construction packages for overhead and underground systems.
• Perform design deliverable quality reviews for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Design and analyze distribution systems using appropriate software and best practices.
• Apply CSA standards to develop safe and reliable distribution designs.
• Conduct site visits and provide support during construction to ensure project success.
• Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality and knowledge sharing.

Shape the future of British Columbia’s energy systems with WSP’s Distribution team in BC. As part of the Power Delivery subsector, our Distribution group leads the design of medium voltage overhead and underground power lines and the facilities that support them. This role gives you hands‑on exposure to real power delivery challenges and the chance to contribute to projects that keep communities connected and energized.

You’ll take on meaningful work across the province, applying your technical skills to power distribution projects that directly influence how energy is delivered and maintained. You’ll collaborate with a supportive team of engineers, designers, project managers, and utility stakeholders while gaining the coaching, mentorship, and training needed to grow your expertise and advance your career.

From supporting new customer connections to helping modernize critical electrical infrastructure, you’ll play a direct role in delivering reliable power solutions that support communities, businesses, and future growth across British Columbia. Your Impact

• Support a wide range of projects for new power services, including upgrades to existing services and new service installations.
• Coordinate closely with clients, project managers, engineers, and designers to help ensure seamless project delivery.
• Apply engineering calculations to prepare design and construction packages for overhead and underground power distribution systems.
• Perform quality reviews of design deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Design and analyze overhead and underground distribution systems using distribution design software and engineering best practices.
• Apply relevant industry codes and standards, including CSA requirements, to develop safe and reliable distribution designs.
• Conduct site visits as required and provide support during the construction phase to help ensure successful project implementation.
• Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality, innovation, and knowledge sharing while delivering high‑quality work that supports critical energy infrastructure.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• Eligibility for registration, or current registration, with ASTTBC.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in power distribution design, consulting engineering, the electric utility industry, or related infrastructure sectors.
• Previous engineering design or drafting experience, particularly within civil or electrical engineering environments.
• Familiarity with utility standards, CSA requirements, and powerline construction techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new technical software and design tools.
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. French language skills are considered an asset.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $57,500–$76,200

MB & ON: $52,500–$72,300

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $52,000–$69,000
