Job summary

County of Brant is seeking a Development Planning professional to provide technical interpretation and advice on planning applications, including variances, zoning amendments, and CPPS-related matters.

You will support the Planning Division with accurate analyses, strong customer service, and timely communication while coordinating site visits and collaboration with County offices and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Urban Design, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
  • Two years of relevant planning, building or engineering experience.
  • Strong customer service, communication and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of Planning Act, Official Plans and CPPS framework.

Job description

REPORTS TO: Manager of Development Planning

LOCATION: Initial Placement – Paris Customer Service Office

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in Urban Design, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
  • Two (2) years relevant work experience, in a planning, building and/or engineering related setting.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, report writing, communication, presentation, conflict resolution skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Zoning By-Laws, Official Plans, municipal planning processes, planning principles and applicable legislation (including Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement and Guidelines).
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Proficient in Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated safe work practices.
  • Valid G driver’s license and/or the ability to travel for site visits and between County offices and facilities as required.
Assets:
  • Experience working within a Planning Division in a municipal setting.
  • Knowledge interpreting, administering development within the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) framework.
  • Membership, or candidate membership, in Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) and/or Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT).
  • Experience utilizing City View software or similar electronic planning/ building permit processing software.
Duties:
  • Provide technical interpretation, review, advice, and recommendation for all planning applications (including consent, minor variances, zoning amendments, site plan control, related agreements, or the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) framework).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range:

$70,816 - $82,846 (Grade 5) 35 hours per week
