Job summary

Weston Consulting in Ontario's Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area is seeking a Junior Planner to support land use planning and urban design projects under the guidance of the Team Lead and senior staff. You will maintain client and consultant communications, assist with Planning Act applications, prepare letters and reports, and coordinate with design, Proposal, accounting and administrative teams.

A Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Planning and Land Development and OPPI provisional eligibility

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Graduate degree focused on Planning and Land Development.
• OPPI provisional or pre-candidate membership is preferred.
• Valid G-class driver’s license with daily vehicle access.
• Some planning experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Maintain ongoing correspondence with clients and consultants.
• Assist with preparing, monitoring and processing Planning Act applications.
• Organize, prepare and attend client and sub-consultant meetings.
• Research and investigate files as directed.
• Assist in preparing hearing materials.
• Prepare letters, reports, memos and presentations.
• Coordinate with Design, Proposal, Accounting and Administrative Teams.

Your Responsibilities, under the guidance of the Team Lead, and other senior staff, will include:

• Maintaining on-going correspondence with clients and with other consultants
• Assisting with the preparation, monitoring and processing of Planning Act applications

• Assisting in the preparation of hearing materials
• Preparation of letters, reports, memos, and presentations

You will bring:

• The ability to communicate effectively with the project team, city staff, clients, and members of the public
• Strong teamwork, organization and collaboration skills
• The ability to hold oneself accountable while maintaining integrity and professionalism
• Knowledge of the Ontario Planning System, including relevant legislation and the development approval process
• Knowledge of the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal is an asset
• Provisional or pre-candidate membership with OPPI
• Bachelor’s or Graduate degree with a specific focus in Planning and Land Development
• Some planning or related experience is an asset
• Valid G-class driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle
