Tri Innovations in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a full-time Junior Piping Designer to join our growing team. Under the guidance of senior designers and engineers, you will develop piping design knowledge, create 3D models, isometrics, and general arrangement drawings, and apply process data to layouts.

The role emphasizes teamwork across disciplines, mentorship, and on-the-job development. Candidates should have 1–4 years of drafting experience, be proficient in AutoCAD, with Plant 3D/Navisworks

Qualifications

• 1-4 years of drafting experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with Plant 3D and Navisworks is an asset.
• Diploma or Certificate in drafting or engineering technology from an accredited program.
• Strong time management and ability to multi-task.
• Effective communication with team members to clarify markups and support coordination.

Responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of senior designers and engineers to develop piping design competencies.
• Prepare and update piping layouts, 3D models, and general arrangement drawings.
• Interpret and apply P&IDs to develop accurate designs meeting project specs.
• Generate isometrics, equipment layouts, and simple design drawings.
• Apply process data to piping designs and revisions.
• Support design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines to resolve clashes.
• Incorporate field changes, redlines, and as-built updates into models and drawings.
• Develop understanding of piping design principles and company standards through mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work under the guidance of senior designers and engineers to develop technical competency in piping design, modeling, and drawing production.
• Prepare and update piping layouts, 3D models, and general arrangement drawings under supervision of senior designers and engineers.
• Assist in interpreting and applying P&IDs to develop accurate designs and ensure alignment with process and mechanical requirements.
• Generate isometrics, equipment layouts, and simple design drawings in accordance with project specifications and Tri standards.
• Apply process data (e.g., line sizes, elevations, pressures, temperatures) to piping designs and revisions.
• Support design reviews and collaborate with instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and civil disciplines to resolve clashes and improve layouts.
• Assist with incorporating field changes, redlines, and as-built updates into the model and drawings.
• Develop an understanding of piping design principles, company standards, and industry practices through mentorship and hands-on project work.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 1-4 years experience as a drafter
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Familiarity with Plant 3D, and Navisworks is an asset.
• Diploma or Certificate in drafting or engineering technology from an accredited secondary institution
• Must have strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.
• Communicate effectively with team members to clarify markups, resolve design questions, and support coordination efforts.
