Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. is seeking a Junior Estimator in Calgary, Alberta to support bids and proposals on infrastructure projects. You will complete quantity takeoffs, apply pricing, and help document bid packages for transfer to project teams.

Ideal candidates have a related degree or diploma and some construction exposure, with basic knowledge of bid prep and takeoff systems. Strong communication with trades and MS Office skills are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• Some construction experience in a related environment is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the construction industry and bid preparation principles.
• Understands and uses takeoff systems.
• Ability to converse with trades and solicit subtrades.
• Experience with estimating software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Supports estimators on preparing bids and proposals.
• Performs quantity, material, and labor takeoffs from project documents.
• Applies unit prices or allowances and base labor productivity to the estimate.
• Assists with bid document control and organizes all estimate information for transfer to the project team.
• Supports lead bid runner with bid-day assignments.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Develops and maintains relationships with lead estimator, bid runner, subtrades and suppliers.

• Supports estimators on preparing bids and proposals.
• Completes quantity, material, and labor takeoffs from project documents.
• Applies material unit prices or allowances and base labor productivities to the estimate.
• Assists with bid document control and documenting, organizing, and archiving all information relating to the estimate for successful transfer to the project team.
• Supports lead bid runner with bid-day assignments.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with all interested parties including lead estimator, lead bid runner, subtrade partners and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• Some relevant experience in a construction environment is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the construction industry and key principles involved in bid preparation.
• Understands and uses takeoff systems.
• Ability to converse with and solicit trades and comfortable with cold-calling.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with interested parties including the ability to solicit subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
