Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist or EIT to join the Site Investigation, Remediation & Response team in British Columbia. This role offers hands-on field experience, exposure to real-world contaminated sites, and mentorship from seasoned professionals in a leading environmental consulting firm.

You’ll work on site investigations across diverse sectors, gaining practical experience while building a solid technical foundation for a career in contaminated sites.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Engineering.
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a professional designation is considered an asset.
• Experience in contaminated sites investigation is a strong asset.
• Willingness to travel for assignments.

Responsibilities

• Support Phase I, II, III ESAs and PSI/DSI programs.
• Conduct soil, soil vapour, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling.
• Develop site health and safety plans and lead field programs with safety first.
• Produce clear field notes and documentation meeting data quality objectives.
• Supervise and coordinate subcontractors in field operations.
• Assist with regulatory applications and Certificates of Compliance.
• Manage field data using specialized equipment and software.
• Support project managers with scopes, budgets, schedules and logistics.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Stantec Canada.
• Contribute to a strong health and safety culture.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist or EIT to join our Site Investigation, Remediation & Response (SIR) team in British Columbia. In this role, you’ll be directly involved in site investigations and remediation programs across a broad range of sectors, including provincial and federal agencies, ports and harbours, transportation infrastructure, and industrial and commercial developments.

You’ll work closely with intermediate and senior staff in both the field and office, gaining practical experience while building the technical foundation needed for a successful career in contaminated sites practice. Your Key Responsibilities

• Supporting and implementing Phase I, II, and III ESAs, Stage 1 PSI, Stage 2 PSI/DSI, and remediation programs
• Conducting soil, soil vapour, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling
• Developing site‑specific health and safety plans and helping lead field programs with safety as the top priority
• Producing clear, accurate field notes and documentation that meet data quality objectives
• Supervising and coordinating with subcontractors (e.g., drillers, hydrovac operators, utility locators, heavy equipment operators)
• Assisting with BC Contaminated Sites Regulation applications, including Approvals in Principle and Certificates of Compliance
• Managing and organizing field data using specialized equipment and software
• Supporting project managers with scopes, budgets, schedules, and field logistics
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Stantec Canada, including geotechnical, water resources, atmospheric sciences, and indoor environments groups
• Actively contributing to—and strengthening—a strong health and safety culture

You’ll Thrive In This Role If You Have

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, ideally within British Columbia
• Previous experience in contaminated sites investigation (a strong asset)
• A collaborative mindset and comfort working with senior and intermediate staff
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A genuine interest in field work, with flexibility to travel for assignments
• The ability to work independently and confidently with subcontractors
• An understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations and guidelines
• Eligibility for, or progress toward, a professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag.) is considered an asset

Education and Experience

• A diploma or degree from a technical college or university in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Engineering
• Previous experience in contaminated sites investigation is a strong asset
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag.) is considered an asset

Pay Range

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$54,900.00 - $76,900.00 Annually
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$58,200.00 - $81,500.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
