Overview

Are you a recent engineering graduate with a passion for mechanical systems and marine environments? Ready to launch your career in shipbuilding and make a real impact from day one? Join our dynamic Field Service Engineering team and help bring world-class vessels to life!

As a Junior Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of shipbuilding operations, supporting our Production team by ensuring ship designs are translated into reality with precision and efficiency. You’ll work hands-on with 3D models, 2D drawings, and production materials to investigate and resolve design-related inquiries.

You’ll collaborate across departments—Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and more—to ensure our teams have the information they need to succeed. You’ll also contribute to engineering change requests, redline drawings, and technical documentation, helping to continuously improve our processes and products.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or related discipline).
  • 0–6 years of experience (co-op or internship experience in marine or mechanical engineering is a plus!).
  • Ability to read blueprints and navigate 3D ship models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • General awareness of shipyard disciplines (hull, piping, propulsion, HVAC, etc.).

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.

Responsibilities
  • Develop routine engineering deliverables under the guidance of a licensed P.Eng.
  • Review ship design details using 3D models, 2D drawings, and production BOMs.
  • Investigate and resolve design-related engineering defects.
