GHD is seeking a Junior Specialist (Emergency Management) in Waterloo, Ontario. The role supports Emergency Preparedness services, incident command system management, and regulatory planning within our Environmental Group.

Hybrid work, three days in-office, offers collaboration and growth across North America. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or master’s in engineering, science, or emergency management, with 1–2 years of relevant experience, strong problem-solving and communication skills,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, science, or emergency management (industry focus).
  • 1–2 years of experience in emergency management or related field.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly to audiences of varying technical abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and respond to non-routine hours.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of Emergency Preparedness services including planning, hazard and risk assessments, training and exercises for environmental response (oil/chemical), ICS management.
  • Conduct consequence modelling using various software programs.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, proposals, evaluations and lessons learned documents.
  • Support gap assessments and program reviews of client emergency management programs.
  • Assist business development and proposal pursuits; support project management activities (cost/budget tracking, scheduling, client communication).

Come join our dynamic Emergency Management Team to grow your career to the next level! As a Junior Specialist (Emergency Management), you will play a meaningful role within our Environmental Group. This position gives the successful candidate the unique experience of working in a matrix business performing work with skilled professionals across North America in a collaborative environment with opportunities for specialization and advancement. The role will be based out of our Waterloo, Ontario office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Support of the delivery of Emergency Preparedness (EP) services such as regulatory/ response planning, hazard and risk assessments, training and exercises for environmental response (oil/chemical), Incident Command System (ICS) management.
  • Conduct consequence modelling using a variety of software programs
  • Support of the preparation of technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, evaluations and lessons learned reports, and ISC documentation and work plans
  • Assist in gap assessment and program review of client emergency management programs
  • Support business development with existing as well as new clients, including assisting with proposal pursuits
  • Support project management activities including cost and budget tracking, scheduling, client communication and liaising, and preparation and implementation of scopes of work

What you will bring to the Team:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, science, or emergency management (with an industry focus)
  • 1-2 years' experience
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and proficiency
  • Ability to present technical information, both written and orally, in a concise and professional manner to audiences of varying technical abilities and backgrounds
  • Positive attitude with very strong interpersonal skills
  • Readiness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to respond to call outs during non-routine working hours will be required
  • High degree of personal initiative, great teammate, and capable of working on a wide variety of tasks
  • Must have a valid drivers license and passport.
  • The following would be considered an asset:
  • Safety / Process / risk / hazard management experience
  • Previous emergency exercise experience
  • Experience in industrial settings, hazardous materials, regulatory compliance, process flow, and/or process safety

Eligible to qualify for a TN Visa to work in United States.

Salary: $65,000

Salary is based on the preferred work location. If the selected candidate´s location differs, changes to the salary range may apply.
