Job summary

Deric in Ontario seeks a junior electrical designer to join our multidisciplinary team, assisting in power distribution, control system design, and panel development for large-scale projects.

You will gain hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, CAD tools like AutoCAD or EPLAN, and collaborate with electricians and millwrights on-site; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed a degree in electrical engineering or related technology.
• Exposure to industrial automation systems, HMIs, and PLCs.
• Familiar with motor control equipment (starters, VFDs, servos).
• Basic knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
• Hands-on experience with field I/O and instrumentation devices.
• Experience with AutoCAD or EPLAN CAD tools.
• Willingness to travel and valid driver’s license.
• Strong English communication skills for remote collaboration.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of machine-level power distribution systems (up to 600V, 1000A).
• Contribute to the design of control system network architectures.
• Develop electrical panel designs, including schematics, layouts, BOMs, and construction documentation.
• Perform PLC programming and HMI configuration for industrial automation systems.
• Configure and integrate a variety of industrial devices and field equipment.
• Participate in system testing in office, panel shop, and job-site environments.
• Support system commissioning and start-up activities on job sites.
• Provide on-site support for operating equipment and troubleshooting.
• Conduct inspections of existing equipment at client sites.
• Collaborate with field trades during installation and commissioning.

Whatwill your day-to-day look like?

Reportingto General Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

· Assistin the design of machine ‑ level power distribution systems (upto 600V, 1000A).

· Contributeto the design of control system network architectures.

· Developelectrical panel designs, including schematics, layouts, bills of materials,and construction documentation.

· PerformPLC programming and HMI configuration for industrial automation systems.

· Configureand integrate a variety of industrial devices and field equipment.

· Participatein system testing in office, panel shop, and job ‑ site environments.

· Supportsystem commissioning and start ‑ up activities on job sites.

· Provideon ‑ site support for operating equipment and assistwith troubleshooting.

· Conductinspections of existing equipment at client sites.

· Collaboratewith field trades (electricians, millwrights, etc.) during installation andcommissioning.

We wouldlike to meet you if you have the following qualifications:

· Thecandidate must be currently completing or have recently completed a degree inElectrical Engineering, an Electrical Engineering Technology or InstrumentationTechnology program, or a related engineering or technology diploma;

· Exposure(through coursework, projects, co-op terms, or internships) to industrialautomation systems, including HMIs and PLCs;

· Familiaritywith motor control equipment (e.g., starters, VFDs, servos, soft starters);

· Basicknowledge of industrial networking/protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP,Profinet);

· Hands-onexperience with field I/O and instrumentation devices (e.g., proximity/limitswitches, solenoid valves, relays, and other sensors);

· Exposure(through coursework, projects, co-op terms, or internships) to CAD tools suchas AutoCAD (or EPLAN);

· Familiaritywith PLC programming software (for any PLC platform previously used);

· Experiencewith HMI configuration/development software (for any HMI/PLC platformpreviously used);

· Curiosityand a strong willingness to learn;

· Validdriver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and willingness to travel asrequired for the role;

Advanced proficiency in English is required for this position due to regular communications with English‑speaking partners and collaborators ;

· Ability/willingnessto work in both office and field environments, including client sites, indoorsor outdoors, in varying weather conditions. Some projects may require workingshift work for short periods of time.
