Qualifications

  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASET as a T.T. or C.E.T.

Job description
The Opportunity:

Junior Design & Drafting Technologist for our Transportation group in Calgary, AB. You will work in design and drafting for urban and rural roadways, including highways, laneways, neighbourhood renewal projects, and cycling/pedestrian facilities. You will join an established team of professionals and be mentored by senior WSP staff to ensure an effective collaborative environment for successful career progression.

You will work on horizontal and vertical design of projects for roadways and other related infrastructure. You should possess the ability to identify and resolve conflicts during the design process and clearly show all required information on plan profile sheets with appropriate details. Occasional field visits may be necessary to field truth design drawings, verify specific details and ensure constructability.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position, working primarily in our downtown Calgary office.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Collaborate with our roadway design team(s) on highway, roadway, laneway and pathway projects
  • Preparation of road engineering design drawings, as‑built/record drawings and other plans, as required using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Preparation of design quantities, cost estimates and providing technical support and engineering expertise to the support the tendering process
  • Periodic site visits may be required to confirm design details, verify existing infrastructure locations and ensure constructability
  • Perform a wide‑range of additional duties intended to support your growth and development within a professional engineering environment
What you’ll bring to WSP:
  • A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a similar 2‑year program will be preferred
  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASET as a T.T. or C.E.T.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
  • Familiarity with transportation engineering principles and design standards such as Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Design Guidelines, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Design Standards, and other Alberta Municipalities (Cities, M.D.’s & Counties) design standards are desirable for the position
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the application of computer‑aided design/drafting programs including AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Competence in Microsoft platforms including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Attention to detail and the ability to generate quality work products
  • Ability to thrive working both independently and as a member of a larger team
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills while interacting with other colleagues, expressing detailed ideas and collaborating within a project team
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and requirements to meet complex project needs
