Job summary

WSP is seeking a Junior Construction Material Lab Technician to join our Canada team in Whitby. You will perform routine laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt, ensuring precise results and proper sample handling.

You'll log observations, operate standard lab equipment, and support senior staff while adhering to health, safety, and quality procedures. A college diploma in civil engineering technology or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

• A college diploma or certificate in civil engineering technology, construction engineering, materials engineering, or a related field (completed or in progress).
• Exposure to construction materials testing through academic labs, co-op terms, internships, or entry-level roles.
• Familiarity with basic laboratory practices and materials testing equipment used for concrete, soils, and aggregates.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with repetitive testing procedures and attention to detail.
• Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs as part of routine laboratory duties.
• A strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork, with an interest in building technical skills in construction materials testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing on construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with standard methods and specifications.
• Prepare, label, log, and manage samples to maintain accurate tracking and traceability.
• Operate standard construction materials laboratory equipment, including balances, ovens, sieves, mixers, molds, and compression testing machines.
• Accurately record observations and test results in laboratory logs, templates, and digital systems.
• Follow health, safety, and quality procedures to maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
• Support senior technicians and technologists by assisting with test setup, equipment cleaning, and general lab organization.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $45,400 – $60,200
• MB & ON: $41,400 – $57,000
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $41,000 – $54,500
