Job Description

Parsons is looking for a Junior Drafter/Technician to join our ever growing Bridges and Tunnels team of professionals and technical experts in Ottawa, Ontario. The Bridge and Tunnels team is involved in the pursuit and delivery of major bridge and structure rehabilitation and design projects in the National Capital Area and throughout Eastern Canada, with the ability to support other Parsons offices throughout Canada and the US.

We are looking for candidates with a working knowledge of design/drafting standards, practices, and techniques to develop engineering drawings for bridge structures using CAD software. Candidates must be proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation and have the ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment that have good communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Under the general direction of a higher-level Designer/Drafter, take sketches and formalize them into working engineering drawings according to established standards and procedures.
  • Produce deliverables with guidance from more experienced Drafters/Technicians.
  • Interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Convert survey points in point form by others to Raster.
  • Prepare drawings for site inspections.
  • Work closely with engineers and other designers to ensure coordinated designs.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with all team members.
  • Work to tight project schedules while ensuring quality of project deliverables.
  • Update drawings with as-built data.
  • Print/plot drawings.
What You'll Bring (Required Skills)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion in CAD design from an accredited technical institution.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Understanding how to read design drawings.
  • Experience working on bridge and/or structural projects.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement through innovation and creative thinking.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication both verbally and in writing.
  • French-English bilingualism.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a larger team.
  • A sense of initiative, attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
Desired Skills
  • 3D CAD modeling experience is an asset.
  • Be a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
  • GPS field collection and/or survey experience using Total Station or similar survey grade equipment would be considered an asset.
