Job summary

Valard Construction seeks Journeyperson Powerline Technicians (434A or Red Seal) for Toronto, ON. This hands-on role focuses on building overhead/underground distribution systems, ensuring safety, and complying with HSE policies.

Reporting to the Construction Foreman, you will install lines, perform energized work, and mentor apprentices on live line procedures while contributing to project documentation and safety plans.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Powerline Technician certification (434A or Red Seal).
• Experience in utility construction sector.
• Direct power distribution experience.
• Experience in energized work, system switching, and underground installations.
• Class 4 Rubber Glove experience.
• Ability to read construction prints and electrical schematics.
• Valid Drivers Licence with acceptable Drivers Abstract (CDL preferred).
• Preference for Confined Space, UWPC, Working at Heights Cert, First Aid (CPR/AED).

Responsibilities

• Maintain steel/wood poles, towers, and guy wires.
• Install overhead and underground power lines, insulators, conductors, transformers, switches, and related equipment.
• Perform conductor stringing, sagging, clipping, and dead-ending (energized and de-energized).
• Execute advanced system switching tasks, including reclosers and loop feeds.
• Perform UG cable testing, terminations, and equipment installation.
• Splice, solder, and insulate conductors for connections.
• Model safe work practices and ensure crew adherence to HSE policies.
• Mentor apprentices and junior personnel in tasks, safety protocols, and equipment use.
• Proficiently carry out advanced live line work procedures and teach apprentices.
• Lead or assist with job hazard assessments, fall protection plans, and critical lift plans.
• Ensure proper documentation of safety forms, inspections, and procedural compliance.
• Submit daily documentation and reports.

Job description

Our Distribution group is currently seeking Journeyperson Powerline Technicians (PLT) to join our growing team, in the Toronto, ON area.

Reporting to the Construction Foreman, PLT's are responsible for construction of overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems. This is a hands‑on role where your technical ability and commitment to safety will directly support our operations and team culture.

Please Note: Candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance. These projects will be for unionized worksites. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW).

Duties and Responsibilities :

Requirements

• - Journeyperson Powerline Technician (434A or Red Seal)
• - Demonstrated experience in the utility construction sector
• - Direct power distribution experience
• - Demonstrated experience in energized work, system switching, and UG installations
• - Class 4 Rubber Glove experience
• - Understanding of construction and maintenance practices for distribution systems
• - Ability to read construction prints and electrical schematics
• - Valid Drivers Licence with ability to provide an acceptable Drivers Abstract (Preference for Commercial Drivers Licence)
• - Preference for Confined Space Certificate, UWPC, Working at Heights Cert, First Aid (CPR/AED)

Benefits

This position offers an hourly rate of $45.04 - $67.56 / hour , depending on experience and qualifications.
