Job summary

The City of Regina is seeking a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic for the Facilities Maintenance branch. The role involves installation, maintenance, and testing of mechanical equipment across City facilities. Supervisory duties may be required for other trades staff.

Work is guided by a Trades Co-ordinator and work orders or instructions. Applicants must hold a Journeyperson Certification in Industrial Mechanic and have at least two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Requires Grade 12 and Journeyperson Certification in Industrial Mechanic Trade.
• Two years of current Journeyperson experience in Industrial Mechanic Trade, preferably in equipment and machinery maintenance.
• Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the Industrial Mechanical trade.
• Knowledge of current codes and regulations affecting the trade.
• Understanding occupational hazards and safety precautions in the trade.
• Ability to interpret blueprint plans, drawings, sketches and schematics of parts assembly.

Responsibilities

• Installs, assembles, repairs, overhauls, removes and tests mechanical equipment.
• Installs machinery and supporting structures according to plans and drawings.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, specs, diagrams and schematic drawings.
• Participates in erection, foundations and anchors for equipment and machinery.
• Aligns machinery and external piping connections.
• Diagnoses equipment for vibration, temperature, speed or lubrication issues and repairs as needed.
• Maintains hydraulic, pneumatic and HVAC systems including chlorine systems and boilers.
• Performs related work as required.

Position Summary

In an environment that supports continuous improvement and under the supervision of the Trades Co-ordinator Mechanical/Electrical, this employee will perform industrial mechanic duties for the Facilities Maintenance branch. Work involves the installation, trouble shooting, maintenance, repair and testing of mechanical equipment and machinery in City facilities. Work is performed independently with latitude for determining specific job methods; however, work priorities are established in consultation with the Trades Co-ordinator. Assignments are in the form of work orders and/or oral instructions and may be accompanied by detailed technical sketches, plans, blueprints, specifications and maintenance schedules. Work is reviewed in progress and/or upon completion. A Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic will be required to supervise other trades people.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Installs, assembles, repairs, overhauls, removes and tests mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, drive units, compressors, collector chains and sprockets, conveyors, pulleys, shafts, belts, rollers, presses, heat exchangers, bus washers, hoists, chlorinators, various piping systems and a variety of other equipment.
• Installs machinery and supporting structures in City facilities according to manufacturer’s specifications, layout plans and drawings.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Participates in the erection, construction and levelling of frameworks, foundations and anchors for equipment and machinery.
• Aligns machinery, equipment, frames, couplings, bearings, shafts, various drives and the identification and connection of external piping such as water supplies, drains and lubrication hoses.
• Examines, tests, repairs and diagnoses equipment for excessive vibration, temperature, speed or abnormal lubrication under normal operating conditions and makes adjustments or repairs as required.
• Installs and maintains hydraulic, pneumatic and specialty systems including heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment, chlorine systems and boilers.
• Performs related work as required.

Key Qualifications

• The Knowledge, abilities, and skills for this position are obtained through the successful completion of Grade twelve (12) and a Journeyperson Certification in the Industrial Mechanic Trade. As well, two (2) years of current Journeyperson experience in the Industrial Mechanic Trade, preferably in the area of equipment and machinery maintenance.
• Considerable knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in relation to the Industrial Mechanical trade.
• Knowledge of current codes and regulation that effect the trade.
• Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.{ "p":""}
• Knowledge of general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
• Ability to interpret blueprint plans, drawings, sketches and schematics of parts assembly and relative positions of machinery components.
• Ability to accurately assemble parts, make fine adjustments and to use precision measuring techniques.
• Skill in the use of tools of the trade.
• Ability to supervise assigned staff including planning daily work schedules and managing performance.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision demonstrating sound judgement and decision-making skills.

Working/Other Conditions
