Job summary

PTW Energy Services is seeking a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician to join the SaskPower Aspen Generating Station team in Saskatoon. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and customer satisfaction with a track record of accurate, detail-oriented work supporting client needs.

Responsibilities include installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of industrial instrumentation and control systems, plus reading drawings and coordinating with multiple teams.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certificate required or equivalent.
  • Red Seal Instrumentation Technician preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation and electrical principles.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, schematics and electrical drawings.
  • Experience in gas/power plants or industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, and calibrate industrial instrumentation and control systems including CEMS.
  • Calibrate transmitters, analyzers, valves, controllers, PLCs, and relays.
  • Support and maintain power generation and industrial equipment.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and contractors during installs and startups.
  • Maintain safety and comply with OH&S standards and company policies.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician to join our team on the SaskPower Aspen Generating Station. The Instrumentation Journeyman is committed to delivering safe, high-quality work that meets and exceeds client expectations. This role requires a strong focus on safety, and customer satisfaction, along with proven experience producing accurate, detail-oriented work in support of client needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, test, and calibrate industrial instrumentation, electrical, and control systems, including continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS)
  • Perform installation and calibration, of process control instrumentation such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, controllers, PLCs, and protective relays
  • Support and maintain power generation and industrial equipment, including gas turbines, generators, and plant auxiliary systems
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control system drawings, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering teams, and external contractors during installations, start-ups, and shutdowns
  • Communicate equipment condition, safety concerns, and job status clearly to operations and supervision
  • Perform all work in compliance with Health & Safety standards, OHS regulations, and company policies
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certificate; Red Seal Instrumentation Technician certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, electrical principles, voltage/current relationships
  • Valid H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Standard First Aid (Level A or C with CPR/AED), and CSTS 2020
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems (programming and troubleshooting)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
  • Experience in gas plants, power plants, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment (multimeters and loop calibrators)
  • Skilled using hand tools and electrical tools for installation and maintenance
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Flexible availability for shift work, overtime, and weekends, with a strong focus on safety and self-direction
Compensation & Benefits
  • Rate:$50
  • Accommodations: LOA provided
