Job summary

PTW Energy Services seeks a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician for a Fly In / Fly Out rotation at the Alta Gas site, Prince Rupert, BC. You will deliver safe, high-quality instrumentation work during commissioning, with strong focus on safety and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certificate required; Red Seal preferred.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation and electrical principles.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Gas/power plant or industrial environment experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver's licence and safety certifications (ESTS, Fall Protection, AWP/MEWP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, test, and calibrate instrumentation and control systems during commissioning.
  • Perform instrument checks, loop checks, signal verification, and functional testing.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and instrument loop drawings.
  • Support PLC, DCS, and HMI commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with client and operations teams during startup and commissioning.
  • Complete calibration records and commissioning documentation accurately.
  • Communicate status, deficiencies, and safety concerns to client and supervision.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician to join our team for a Fly In / Fly Out rotation at our Alta Gas site out of Prince Rupert, BC. The Journeyman Instrumentation Technician is committed to delivering safe, high-quality work that meets and exceeds client expectations. This role requires a strong focus on safety, and customer satisfaction, along with proven experience producing accurate, detail-oriented work in support of client needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, troubleshoot, test, and calibrate industrial instrumentation and control systems during commissioning.
  • Perform instrument checks, loop checks, point-to-point checks, signal verification, and functional testing.
  • Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot process instrumentation including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, controllers, and other field devices.
  • Verify instrument wiring, terminations, I/O assignments, and field connections.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, instrument loop drawings, control system drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Support PLC, DCS, and HMI commissioning and troubleshooting as required.
  • Work closely with the client, operations, maintenance, engineering, and commissioning teams during startup and commissioning activities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot instrumentation and control issues and assist with punch-list completion.
  • Complete calibration records, commissioning documentation, test sheets, and work reports accurately.
  • Communicate equipment status, deficiencies, safety concerns, and job progress clearly to the client and supervision.
  • Perform all work in accordance with site safety requirements, OHS regulations, and company policies.
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certificate; Red Seal Instrumentation Technician certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, electrical principles, voltage/current relationships
  • Valid ESTS,Fall Protection and AWP/MEWP
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems (programming and troubleshooting)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
  • Experience in gas plants, power plants, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment (multimeters, loop calibrators, oscilloscopes)
  • Skilled using hand tools and electrical tools for installation and maintenance
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Flexible availability for shift work, overtime, and weekends, with a strong focus on safety and self-direction
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Hourly wage:$58, commensurate with experience and certification
  • Shift: 14 days on, 7 days off

  • Overtime opportunities paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate
