Job summary

IDL Projects seeks Carpenters and Carpenter Apprentices in Prince Rupert. The role involves reading blueprints, laying out to code, building foundations, installing walls, and fitting trim. Mentors apprentices and contributes to a safe, high-quality construction environment.

Relocation to Prince Rupert is required; LOA travel and living assistance are provided for initial relocation. Competitive compensation and opportunities for advancement are offered within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Journeyman Carpenter Certificate or be a Registered Carpenter Apprentice.
• RED SEAL certification is an asset.
• Must have formwork experience.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
• Prepares layouts in conformance to building codes.
• Demonstrates skill in the safe operation of shop tools.
• Measures, cuts, shapes, assembles and joins materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
• Builds foundations, install floor beams, lays subflooring, and erects walls and roof systems.
• Fits and installs trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware.
• Maintains, repairs, and renovates structures (residential, commercial, and industrial).
• Mentors apprentices and other construction workers.

Position Summary

• Read and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
• Prepares layouts in conformance to building codes
• Demonstrates skill in the safe operation of shop tools
• Measures, cuts, shapes, assembles and joins materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Builds foundations, install floor beams, lays subflooring, and erects walls and roof systems
• Fits and installs trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
• Maintains, repairs, and renovates structures (residential, commercial, and industrial)
• Mentors apprentices and other construction workers
• May prepare cost estimates for clients

Qualifications

• Must have a Journeyman Carpenter Certificate from a recognized provincial training authority or be a Registered Carpenter Apprentice with a recognized provincial training authority
• RED SEAL certification is an asset
• Must have formwork experience
• Able to accurately read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches
• Practical knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
• Successful completion of pre-access drug and alcohol testing as required on a project by project basis
