Job Overview

Position(s): Journeyman Crane Operator(s)

Shift Schedule: Rotation – 20/7
Location: Gillam, Manitoba

Forbes Bros Ltd. is currently looking for experienced Journeyman Crane Operator(s) (fulltime-permanent) to join our team. This is a field-based role that will require the successful candidate(s) to travel to the remote camp job site in Gillam, Manitoba. This project is anticipated for completion in April 2026.

Our Crane Operators work with various cranes, boom trucks and other equipment based on experience and training for the appropriate project site. This successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of site crane(s) and other equipment as required by project needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lives Forbes Bro. value of WE WORK SAFE & never compromising on safety in all aspects of our everyday work
  • Operate the crane in a safe and appropriate manner and abide by all local, provincial, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures
  • Lifting lattice structures
  • Ensure rigging is maintained and certified
  • Perform pre-operational inspections, safety checks, test lifts and ensure they meet engineered lift plans
  • Confirm load chart calculations and lift calculations are done
  • Communicates with assigned crews to determine the best placement of crane for planned lift
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment and report any damages or repair needs to the appropriate parties
  • Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance
  • Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned
Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience operating the respective site of crane (up to 100 tons), with powerline and lattice structures/towers, is required
  • Journeyperson Red Seal Crane Certificate, is required
  • Class 3 Driver's license, is required
  • Understanding of utility construction, is preferred
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to direct a team to efficiently and effectively complete jobs within deadlines
  • Flexible with hours worked, travel, and working in adverse weather conditions
  • Able and willing to accommodate frequent overtime hours and weekend hours when required
  • Able and willing to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions and environments inclusive of heavy lifting
  • Able and willing to provide an acceptable five (5) year Driver's Abstract
