Job description
SUMMARY

Based out of the Thunder Bay KO's Jordans Principle Program is looking to hire an assistant for Jordans Principle program.

The Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Jordans Principle Coordinator with administrative tasks and provide support to community members guided by the principles of anti-oppressive approaches and practices. This will include advocating for changes to the health and social service systems and advocating for solutions facilitating partnerships to fill service gaps assisting communities in the development of program polices and procedures and working with communities to identify program documentation requirements and acting as a bridge between communities and government authorities at local regional and national level.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operational Planning connecting communities to government authorities at a local regional and national level to facilitate access for children in need of treatment programs and services.
  • Responding to requests from assigned communities on issues affecting program delivery and capacity.
  • Provide information and educational guidance to families.
  • Provide administrative supports : clerical duties (travel scheduling and arrangements) assisting in electronic reporting / assessment tasks intake / admission into programs and services client tracking corresponding with vendors through data collection and reporting on clients needs.
  • Improve client / family awareness of existing and eligible supports and services in partnership with service coordinators and partnering agencies.
  • Support with navigating through Jordans Principle Programs and Services.
  • Ensure confidentiality / data protection for clients communities and staff.
  • Identify with the communities areas where children with a developmental disability or delay living in KO First Nation are denied access to services ordinarily provided to children living off-reserve.
  • Assist the communities with the planning implementation and evaluation of their programs.
  • Coordinate the hiring process for professional staff orient to ensuring technical and personal abilities to meet program expectations.
  • Assist the communities to implement a performance management process which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis
  • Research funding sources and assist KO and its communities to write funding proposals to increase the funds available for program delivery.
  • Assists the community members with writing individual applications as needed.
  • Perform any errands for the office such as purchasing supplies delivering packages etc.
  • Maintaining program storage supplies; ordering and distributing supplies and equipment; maintaining appropriate inventory controls for the JP Program. Ability to lift 20-40 lbs.
  • Work with the communities to identify and evaluate the risks to the programs (clients staff volunteers) and assist the communities to implement measures to control and minimize risks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Willing and able to travel as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • The Assistant will be required to travel to each KO community for one week four times a year and will utilize telemedicine / virtual methods to provide continuous capacity strengthening activities to community programs and support the community programs with all areas of program delivery.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in health program development for First Nation communities
  • Must be aware of culturally safe practices and be respectful of Keewaytinook Okimakanak people and their communitys traditions and culture.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and time management skills.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities.
  • Proven leadership abilities including accountability and work-habits.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word Excel Power Point.
  • Experience and skills working in a political environment.
  • Experience in report and proposal writing.
  • Knowledge of the complex multi-layered structure of health and social program targeted to children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families.
  • Minimum grade 12 a completion of post-secondary in relevant discipline is preferred however an individual with a combination of skills training experience and knowledge may be considered.
