Stage Manager – Badlands Passion Play

The Badlands Amphitheatre is looking for a Stage Manager for their 2026 production of The Canadian Badlands Passion Play in Drumheller, AB. The Canadian Badlands Passion Play tells an epic story of faith, hope & love based on the life of Christ. It is performed on Canada’s largest outdoor stage, with a company formed of professional and semi‑professional actors (supplemented by volunteer actors), working with a professional crew.

Job Description

The Stage Manager of the Badlands Passion Play works with the cast, crew, production team, and directing team to ensure a smooth running production process from rehearsals through performances. They lead a team of 5 ASM’s who work together to track the props, set pieces, cues, fights, animals and blocking during rehearsals, while also looking after the well being and safety of the cast members.

Duties
  • Coordinating with the directing team to create a weekly rehearsal schedule and distributing it to the cast and crew.
  • Supporting the ASM team with set up and clean up of the stage during rehearsals and performances.
  • Maintaining a prompt script with cues, blocking, and any other notes that are important for the smooth running of the show.
  • Creating and distributing rehearsal notes following each rehearsal to communicate any adjustments, requests, safety concerns, or other relevant information to the rest of the production team.
  • Supporting the needs of the cast by ensuring that they have the most up to date version of the script and music, that they are only called when required, and that they are working in a safe environment.
  • Ensuring that rehearsals stay on schedule and that breaks are being taken at the appropriate times.
  • Calling the show, including stand‑by’s, actor entrances, scene changes, special effects, sound cues, and other transitions.
  • Maintaining the vision and quality of the show during the run. This may include calling brush‑up or understudy rehearsals.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Previous Stage Management experience is required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Can confidently think ahead to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Great communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment, with changing challenges requiring adaptive problem solving.
  • Can organize, document, and track various kinds of information effectively.
  • Can comfortably lift, move, push, and/or pull items up to 35lbs.
  • Comfortable working in an active job that may require you to be moving around the amphitheatre all day.
  • Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Previous experience working with volunteers is an asset.
Important Information
  • This is a contract position from May 25 – July 20.
  • The Badlands Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue. We rehearse and perform in all kinds of weather, and on all kinds of terrain.
  • The work week is six (6) days long with Tuesdays off, hours vary from day to day. During performances the work week shifts to three (3) days on and four (4) days off.
  • Compensation is a contract amount depending on experience level that starts at $7,800.
